Once a scenic fishing village, Albufeira used to be an untouched, typical Algarvean sea side town. Today, tourism has taken over.

Albufeira town centre is devoted to mass-market tourism, there are pubs round every corner showing the latest sports, offering two for one cocktails and allowing holiday makers to party into the night. It has all but lost the vestiges of its past.

Fishing boats are now moored at the ultramodern marina southwest of the centre and the old town – with its pretty cobblestone streets and Moorish influences – is concealed by neon signs, English menu boards and rowdy bars.

If you are looking for a property to use as a rental investment, or you want two weeks in the sun, relaxing on the beach during the day and enjoying a drink into the evening then Albufeira is a great option.

Prices here are cheaper than the larger resort of Vilamoura and only 10 minutes further away from the airport. There is a great marina just outside the main part of Albufeira with a myriad of restaurants, family activities and day trips on offer.

Surrounding Albufeira, slightly back from the coast you can buy fabulous villas with magnificent sea views and more of these are being built every year – but all are in keeping with the environment as there are stringent laws governing the constriction industry.

If you are looking for a great rental investment then head for Albufeira.
