In Quarteira you will find the three kilometre Marginal, one of the most beautiful seafront promenades anywhere in the Algarve. Paved in the traditional Portuguese style, the promenade is ornate and really is a great way to pass an afternoon strolling by the ocean or enjoying a run by the sea.

Despite the development of local services and tourism in the Algarve in recent years, Quarteira has managed to keep its green zones intact and has a lively community which is predominantly Portuguese.

There is a popular fish market and daily vegetable and fruit market in the centre of the city as well as a weekly farmers’ market and gypsy market every Wednesday morning. Even though referred to as a city it is a very tranquil area and the cost of living is low. Quarteira is one of the places preferred by Portuguese families to vacation and is also a sought-after destination throughout the year for foreigners to base themselves on holiday.

Property in Quarteira is generally apartments – villas and townhouses will come up for sale occasionally but will be on the outskirts of the city rather than in the centre. However, most apartments in the centre have already been snapped up by individuals using them as buy to let investments, but you can find a rare treasure here. If you are lucky enough to find an apartment for sale many will have shared swimming pools, underground garages and elevators. There is a steady rental income potential in Quarteira and as prices in the neighbouring areas continue to rise a purchase here may be a very shrewd investment for the future.
